Since the middle 1990s, there has been a sudden interest in the subject
of the Vastu Shastras. People seem to have rediscovered a long lost panacea
for their ills. All they need to do is to make a few changes to their
home or office layout and overnight, they have the health, wealth and
happiness which they lacked for so long!
In response to this trend, a number of so-called experts have emerged,
promising miracles. Their first step is to give the prospective client
a long list of "case-studies" where observance of the rules of Vastu has
lead to a wonderful life and violation of the same rules has invited poverty,
death and even the loss of political power!
A typical scenario involves a business doing badly for no apparent reason
when a skeptical owner makes some changes as per the expert's advice.
This results in an unexpected turn-around of fortune. (That the firm,
or company, was making pots of money until just the year before the slump
is immaterial). Stories like these are usually enough to give the most
hard headed person a severe case of the jitters and in business, above
all else, the refrain is, "Why take a chance" ?
A person asking the Vastu Pundit for the rationale behind his advice will
be given some pseudo-scientific (if not downright weird) reasons. An accurate
word for all this would be obfuscation. This is not to say that Vastu
Shilpa Shastra is not a science. It is! But its roots must be based in
logic and not superstition.
To understand the basic principles, it is essential to start at the very
beginning; to travel back in time to the Early Vedic period, for the origins
of and to the original, Vastu Shilpa Shastras.
